Rainwater and Greywater Storage System Separation

Rainwater and greywater are different water sources and should not be treated as interchangeable without a properly designed treatment and control strategy. Modular PP tanks can provide storage within a non-potable water system, but source separation, hygiene, treatment and local code requirements must be resolved first.

System role and suitable projects

This page focuses on system separation. Rainwater generally comes from roofs or other defined catchments, while greywater comes from selected internal fixtures and normally requires different collection, treatment and operational controls.

  • Non-potable water system feasibility studies
  • Projects comparing rainwater and greywater reuse
  • Separate storage zones within integrated water strategies
  • Commercial developments requiring clear pipe and control identification

How the modular tank works

Designers define water sources and end uses, keep potable and non-potable systems protected, and select treatment appropriate to each stream. Storage volumes, overflow, ventilation, access and maintenance are then coordinated with the chosen modular tank.

Installation planning

  1. Confirm runoff volume, design storm, inflow and discharge requirements.
  2. Check excavation, groundwater, soil bearing conditions and required cover depth.
  3. Prepare a level base and assemble modules according to the approved layout.
  4. Wrap the structure with the specified geotextile and/or waterproof membrane.
  5. Connect inlet, outlet, ventilation, inspection and overflow components.
  6. Backfill in controlled layers and commission the system before operation.
