To put it simply, in the process of construction, through various techniques such as seepage, stagnation, storage, cleaning, use, and drainage, it can effectively absorb and store rainwater when it rains, and it can be released and used when it is fine, just like a sponge.

The sponge test section of the park is the first demonstration project of the sponge city construction in Hangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone. Among them, under the green lawn, a set of rainwater collection and utilization system was placed.

According to the Sponge Office of the Development Zone, the rainwater collection system collects rainwater from one of the four rainwater pipe networks in the park. The catchment area is 10,000 square meters, of which the hardened area is about 2,500 square meters and the green area is about 7,500 square meters.

During the construction, 200 cubic meters of PP module assembled reservoir, 20 cubic meters of PP module assembled clear water tank, buried rainwater treatment integrated machine and automatic controlled sprinkler irrigation system were buried under the construction lawn.

Yang Gong told reporters that the soil of Xiasha is mainly siltous soil, with a large amount of sediment. Although the water seepage speed is fast, the water retention performance is poor, the water stability is poor, and the water is easy to collapse. “With the slope of the terrain, brick walls were built around the module to share the lateral soil pressure during the construction process.”
In this way, the rainwater that infiltrates when it rains is stored in the reservoir, and after purification, the automatic sprinkler irrigation system is used to automatically water the green land, which is ecological and environmentally friendly.

In addition to collecting rainwater, there is a 150-meter brick-and-red permeable pavement in the park. The permeable pavement is like a “pores” on the skin, which can suck in water to minimize the water in the road area, thus reducing the drainage pressure of the rainwater pipe network and the ditch.

Yang Gong introduced that this permeable pavement adopts a new type of structural permeable brick to be paved on the sidewalk. The brick surface has good water permeability. In addition to drinking water, the amount of “dose” is not small, it is not easy to block, and the cleaning and maintenance is simple and convenient in the later stage. low.

In the paving process, they use two fabrics and a perforated diversion tube to filter the infiltrated rainwater through the graded gravel and slowly flow into the rainwater pipe network to achieve peak discharge and ensure no water accumulation on the road surface. “After the completion of the project, it has withstood the test of several heavy rains since June.” Yang Gong said.
